Heroes and directors are the selling faces for any film. Biggest of the blockbusters in Indian cinema are today identified only with a director or hero name but not the writers name. Likewise, the magnificent ‘Bahubali’ victory symbolizes only director SS Rajamouli and hero Prabhas but not the writer Vijayendra Prasad. When senior writer Paruchuri Gopala Krishna garu is asked about the same question, the answer was different.
‘I am with this industry from last 20 years. For our Telugu audience, hero is a god material. He should ultimately win. For audience, ‘Bahubali’ means Prabhas but for our writers’ community, ‘Bahubali means its writer Vijayendra Prasad,’ that’s the writer’s perspective.
Good thing is many of the star directors are also writers today. Trivikram Srinivas, Koratala Siva, Sampat Nandi are best examples. The benefits of a writer turning into director are already seen in recent blockbuster films. However, Vijayendra Prasad and Rajamouli make a superb combination.
