Singer Smitha Shocks SS Rajamouli

Economic Independence of Women is an ever burning topic to discuss and debate in Independent India. It is absolutely true that Women are treated as second grade citizens in India as they fight for equal rights in our patriarchal system society. Constantly there is voice here and there raised against this inequality but when a cinema connected celebrity makes the same in form a short film, obviously the reach will be higher.

Telugu pop singer Smitha and director Deva Katta emphasized the need of Women’s economic independence as they released a short film ‘Dying to Be Me.’ Smitha played a simple Indian house wife serving the needs of family members like husband, in-laws. When she gets selected for a job, her husband rejects the theory of a woman going for job because woman’s real job is to take care of family. Now, Smitha fights for her freedom, dignity and takes up the same job.

Finally Deva Katta puts it simple, ‘Women Comprise of 50 Percent of India’s Population… Contribute to 70 Percent of India’s Work Hours… Earn 10 Percent of India’s Salary… Own 1 Percent of India’s Wealth.’ Such statistics are really disgraceful to hear and Rajamouli responded the same saying, ‘Shocking and heart wrenching statistics. Aptly put out on the eve of Independence Day by Deva Katta.’

To remind here, Deva Katta helped Rajamouli in scripting and writing of few ‘Bahubali’ episodes.
