Commercial Telugu Cinema doesn’t need any extraterrestrial thinking. Tollywood has inculcated a problematic culture of leaving the creativity to remote corner where writers and directors are getting more dependent on re-polishing the age old proven stories and scripts. The skill lies in a writer and director to make this story be-fit their selected hero. Nothing to complaint or downgrade our own industry standards but this is a general subject debated in between an excited film buffs group.
‘Srimanthudu’ is referred as a movie with powerful and strong content. Having seen the pity hit film formulas in last one decade or so, ‘Srimanthudu’ story is surely to be called as majestic. However, our highly qualified directors like K Raghavendra Rao played with this concept two decades ago. Film revolving around solving of problems in a village by fighting against a cruel village head is strongly registered in ‘Maa Voori Pandavulu, Trishulam’ etc.
Starring Krishnam Raju in these films, hero has different causes to fight for betterment of village lives. Sometimes problems lied in construction of school for children or sometimes releasing the farmers’ encroached lands from the clutches of village head. ‘Srimanthudu’ has the same theme as Mahesh Babu is in action for saving the poor lands and illegally appropriated river. Thanks to Modi and Naidu, the term ‘VILLAGE ADOPTION’ is fascinating our film writers too. This is an extra emotional supplement for our hero to drink more glucose and perform deadly action.
Realistic treatment of similar hypothesis can be witnessed in Shah Rukh Khan 'Swades' and Chiranjeevi 'Rudhraveena.' Hers is special applause to Koratala Siva only for offering a cinematic treatment to a realistic concept. Primarily, it’s time to give due credits for our great brains, KRR, Dasari, Balachander and others. ‘Trishulam’ is even remade in Hindi as ‘Naya Kadam.’
