Prithviraj Sukumaran Reveals Why He Turned Down the Chance to Direct Rajinikanth

Prithviraj Turned Down Lyca Offer

In a surprising revelation, Malayalam actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran shared that he had turned down an offer from Lyca Productions to direct a film starring superstar Rajinikanth. At the teaser launch event of his directorial L2: Empuraan, Prithviraj explained that he was approached by Lyca Productions with an opportunity to collaborate with Rajinikanth, but he couldn't come up with a subject that would do justice to the legendary actor.

Prithviraj revealed that the opportunity was too good to pass up, but he couldn't meet the timeline set by the production house. Despite the project not materializing, Prithviraj shared that it led to a friendship between him and Subaskaran, the head of Lyca Productions. The two would meet whenever Prithviraj visited London, and their casual conversations would often revolve around their dreams in cinema.

These conversations led to two other opportunities for Prithviraj, including a big-budget film as an actor, which he hopes will happen someday. The other opportunity was Lyca Productions coming on board to produce his directorial venture, L2: Empuraan. The film, which is the second installment of the Lucifer franchise, is set to hit theaters on March 27 and stars Mohanlal, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, and Indrajith Sukumaran.
