While Rajinikanth's 'Vettaiyan' fetched Rs 16 crores and Vijay's 'GOAT' earned Rs 17 crores in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Suriya's 'Kanguva' has far outstripped these figures. This strong performance is attributed to the success of his previous Telugu hits like 'Ghajini', 'Veedokkade', and the blockbuster 'Singham'.
Despite a slight dip in popularity after films like 'Seventh Sense', '24', and 'Brothers' failed to resonate with Telugu audiences, Suriya's recent surge in popularity is evident in the enthusiastic reception of 'Kanguva's promos and poster. However, the distributor acknowledges the challenge of recouping this substantial investment during the non-festive season. While the film was initially scheduled for release on Dussehra, Suriya opted to avoid clashing with Rajinikanth's 'Vettaiyan' and pushed the release to mid-November.
