Actress Tamannaah was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for nine hours yesterday in Guwahati, in connection with a money laundering case linked to the fraudulent "HPZ Token" mobile app. The app, which promised investors high returns through Bitcoin and cryptocurrency mining, allegedly defrauded numerous people.
Tamannaah, who was the brand ambassador for the HPZ Token app and received remuneration for promoting it, was summoned to the ED Zonal office in Guwahati. Her statement was recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
While the ED investigation is ongoing, no incriminating charges have been leveled against Tamannaah. The case, which was filed in March, involves 299 entities, including 76 based in China. The Chinese entities are named as accused in the case.
ED officials conducted searches across the country during the investigation, seizing immovable assets and deposits worth Rs. 455 crore.
Tamannaah and her mother arrived at the ED office at 1.30 PM and the actress was questioned until late evening.
This is not the first time Tamannaah has been investigated in connection with the HPZ Token case. The ED had previously conducted inquiries regarding her involvement.
The case continues to unfold as the ED pursues its investigation into the fraudulent activities of the HPZ Token app and its impact on investors.
