Industry veteran and leading producer Dil Raju is reportedly eyeing the chairmanship of the Telangana State Film Development Corporation (FDC). This move comes after prominent figures in Tollywood urged Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao to revive the FDC, which has been largely inactive in recent years.
Sources indicate that Raju, who previously served as President of the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce, believes his extensive experience and connections can leverage significant benefits for the industry from the state government. The FDC chairman plays a crucial role in fostering a harmonious relationship between Tollywood and the government, effectively resolving issues and facilitating smoother operations.
"The corporation receives significant funding from the government, ranging from Rs. 80 to 100 crore annually," informs the source. "This funding needs to be utilized strategically and effectively, like it was in the past, to support content-driven films, organize events like the International Children's Film Festival, and oversee the prestigious Nandi Awards (now rebranded as Gadar Awards), which are celebrated annually by the film fraternity."
This move by Dil Raju follows his reported aspirations to enter politics. He was previously in talks with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) about contesting the Nizamabad Parliamentary Constituency in the 2024 elections, although that endeavor ultimately did not materialize.
His potential chairmanship of the FDC signifies a significant shift in his focus toward strengthening the infrastructure and support system within Tollywood. This move could potentially revitalize the corporation's role in promoting and nurturing the Telugu film industry, bringing about positive changes for filmmakers and actors alike.
