Maidaan Makers Clarifies On Legal Action

Maidaan makers on legal controversy

Maidaan makers clarifies on legal action.Following reports that the legal heirs of Syed Abdul Rahim, the legendary football coach portrayed in the film "Maidaan," were unhappy with the producers regarding unpaid royalties, Boney Kapoor, producer of the film, issued a statement clarifying the situation.

Kapoor addressed the speculations, stating that no notices from the police have been received by the production team. He emphasized the need to investigate the facts and condemned the reports.

In his statement, Kapoor detailed the legal proceedings and the amicable resolution reached with the legal heirs. He highlighted that in June 2019, the heirs filed a suit seeking an injunction against the production and release of "Maidaan." However, the court dismissed the application, recognizing that the information regarding Rahim's life as a coach was publicly available.

Despite the court's decision, the producers, in a gesture of goodwill, reached an amicable agreement with the heirs in January 2020, as documented in a consent term filed with the City Civil Court, Hyderabad. Kapoor also mentioned that they obtained life rights from Sqn. Ldr. Syed Shahid Hakim, the late son of Syed Abdul Rahim, and paid the consideration to his wife and family members as per Hakim's instructions.

The statement further emphasized that the film "Maidaan" garnered the prestigious Best Asian Film award at the Septimius Awards, showcasing its critical acclaim and success. Directed by Amit Sharma and produced by Boney Kapoor's Bayview Projects LLP, the film continues to garner attention for its powerful story and Ajay Devgn's compelling performance.
