Annapoorani To Resume Streaming From August 9

Nayan Controversial Film Back On OTT

Nayanthara's Tamil movie Annapoorani is set to return to OTT platforms after a six-month hiatus, following its removal from Netflix and Simply South in January 2024 due to controversy surrounding its depiction of Hindu beliefs. The film, which marked Nayanthara's 75th project, will be available for streaming exclusively on Simply South from August 9, 2024, except for viewers in India.

Directed by Nilesh Krishnaa, Annapoorani tells the story of a young woman who dreams of becoming a chef despite opposition from her traditional Brahmin family and priest father. The film generated mixed reviews during its theatrical run in December 2023 but sparked heated debates upon its debut on Netflix.

Produced by Zee Studios, Naad Studios, and Trident Arts, Annapoorani boasts a talented cast, including Jai, Sathyaraj, and KS Ravi Kumar, among others. The musical score is composed by Thaman.

The upcoming re-release of Annapoorani on Simply South is expected to reignite discussions around its themes and content. However, details regarding its availability for Indian audiences on other OTT services remain unclear.
