Lingusamy Complains Against Kamal Haasan At Producers Council

Lingusamy drags Kamal to council

Lingusamy complains against Kamal at Producers Council. Filmmakers Lingusamy and Subash Chandra Bose of Tirrupathi Brothers have reportedly filed a complaint against Kamal Haasan at the Producers Council, alleging a breach of contract related to their collaboration on the 2015 film Uttama Villain. According to India Today, the producers claim that the film's failure led to financial difficulties for their production house.

In a recent interview with Touring Talkies, Lingusamy revealed that after the box office disappointment of Uttama Villain, Kamal Haasan had promised to work on another film with their production house, with a budget of ₹30 crore. However, Lingusamy alleges that Kamal Haasan kept changing the script, which contributed to the film's failure. Lingusamy also mentioned that they had approached Kamal for the remake of Drishyam, but he chose to do the film with another producer.

Lingusamy expressed his frustration, stating, “The problem with Kamal is that he keeps changing his mind often. He has done that before and succeeded. Had I been a director, it would have been a different thing, but I went in as a producer.”

Thirrupathi Brothers also issued a statement in mid-April, criticizing a YouTube channel for spreading misinformation about Uttama Villain's box office performance. They emphasized the financial losses incurred by the film and Kamal Haasan's alleged written assurance to act in and produce another film to cover the losses.

Uttama Villain, directed by Ramesh Aravind, received positive reviews but did not perform well commercially. The film, which also starred K Viswanath, K Balachander, Jayaram, Andrea Jeremiah, Pooja Kumar, Nassar, Parvathy Thiruvothu, and Urvashi, has since gained a cult following and is appreciated for its storytelling and portrayal of the Kerala art form of Theyyam.
