Venkat Prabhu denies making fun of Rajini Coolie

Did GOAT director mocked Rajini Coolie

Director Venkat Prabhu, known for films like "The Greatest of All Time" featuring Vijay, found himself embroiled in controversy after sharing a video on his Instagram stories that appeared to poke fun at trailers for commercial films. While many believed the video was targeting Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Rajinikanth-starrer "Coolie," Venkat Prabhu clarified his stance.

In response to a tweet that suggested he was mocking Lokesh Kanagaraj and "Coolie," Venkat Prabhu denied the accusation, stating that the video was actually a commentary on the nature of trailers for commercial films in general. He expressed agreement with the video's message, which criticized the repetitive nature of trailers, using old music and punch dialogues to create excitement.

Venkat Prabhu questioned whether fans would be receptive to filmmakers deviating from the standard commercial film trailer template. He emphasized the need for originality and innovation in trailers, suggesting that audiences should be more discerning in their expectations.

Regarding "Coolie," Venkat Prabhu's comments are pertinent, as the title announcement video for the film featured reprogrammed music originally composed for the 1983 film "Thanga Magan." The video also included Rajinikanth reciting a famous dialogue from his 1982 film "Ranga," which was inspired by a lyric from the song "Sambo Siva Sambo" in his 1979 film "Ninaithale Inikkum," co-starring Kamal Haasan.

Venkat Prabhu's remarks underscore the need for creativity and freshness in film promotions, challenging filmmakers and fans alike to embrace new approaches and perspectives.
