The series is set in Heeramandi, the red-light district of Pakistan’s Lahore, during the British Raj. As we are introduced to this glittery world, we are told that Heeramandi is run by its tawaifs (escorts) who have more say in its affairs than its white rulers or its nawabs. As the fire of Partition reaches Heeramandi, factions are created. The escorts, the nawabs and the British will resort to anything, including cheating, deception and back-stabbing to usurp power.

He also thanked Netflix, which not only shares his love for storytelling but also possesses the unparalleled capability to bring the series to the most diverse and global audience imaginable.
