Karan Johar on Animal

Karan Johar insights on Animal. Karan Johar recently shared his thoughts on Ranbir Kapoor and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga's film 'Animal.' While acknowledging that he didn't delve deeply into the moral aspects of the film, he found it impactful and praised the filmmaker's vision.

Speaking at the Forbes India Leadership Awards 2024, Johar stated that 'Animal' had sparked a significant amount of debate and garnered various opinions from the public and celebrities alike. He expressed his admiration for the filmmaker's approach to storytelling.

Regarding the film, Johar said, "There’s been a lot of debate on 'Animal.' People have expressed opinions, stood for it or against it - the filmmaker himself has been very vocal about his feelings. Personally, truly honestly, I saw it as a character film based on a character who was deeply dysfunctional, inherently violent, who had many emotional issues - and I loved the treatment."

He emphasized that he was captivated by the narrative, sound design, screenplay, dialogue, and character development, which he believed were the film's strengths.

Johar also highlighted that 'Animal' evoked strong reactions from people, leading to discussions and debates. He acknowledged that while some may criticize the film, as a filmmaker, he appreciated the emotional impact it had on him and others.

Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, 'Animal' starred Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, and Bobby Deol in prominent roles. Released in December 2023, the film emerged as a blockbuster, grossing over Rs 900 crore worldwide and becoming Ranbir's highest-grossing film.

Despite its commercial success, 'Animal' faced criticism for its portrayal of toxic masculinity and extreme violence, with many condemning it for glorifying such themes.
