Nayanthara Open Letter About Annapoorani Controversy

Nayanthara Tenders Apology

Popular actress Nayanthara's recent film, 'Annapoorni' ran into trouble after a few Hindu groups accused it of spreading "anti-Hindu" propaganda. Subsequently, Netflix removed the film from its plaform last week. The film was released in theatres on December 1st last year and eventually made into Netflix with multiple languages. The film deals with a Brahmin girl played by Nayanthara who wants to become a top chef in India. 

The film is about Annapoorani (Nayanthara), who aims to become a top chef in India. As she wants to become top chef she wants to break several moulds and the film depicts that she eats meat as a part of reaching her goal. In one of the scenes, her friend in the film, Farhan convinces Annapoorani to eat meat. He goes on to mention that Lord Ram also consumed meat and that it isn't a sin to eat non-vegetarian food.

This found some sections hurt with its depiction. Ramesh Solanki, founder of the Hindu IT cell, took to X (formerly Twitter) and expressed his objection to the film. He also filed a complaint with the police, based on which, an FIR was filed by the Mumbai Police. The complaint was filed against Nayanthara, Jai, writer-director Nilesh Krishna, producers Jatin Sethi, R Ravindran, and Punit Goenka, Zee Studios Chief Business Officer Shariq Patel, and the head of Netflix India, Monika Shergill. As a result Netflix has removed the film from their streaming service.

Nayanthara Apologies For Annapoorni

Nayanthara puts an end to the ongoing controversy by extending apology to those hurt by their unintentional actions in the film. She writes in her open letter which has Jai Shri Ram and Om on the masthead, " My team and I never intended to hurt anyone's sentiments and we understand that the gravity of this issue. Being someone who wholely believes in God and frequently visits temples accross the country, it is the last thing I would intentionally do. To those whose feelings we've touched, I extend my sincere and heartfelt apologies."
