Its been exactly one year since the release of a couple of films created sensation in Tamil and Kannada industries whose success reverberate in other industries as well. Tollywood has started the trend of delivering huge budgeted films which crossed south boundaries and breaks Bollywood barriers emerging as Pan India Blockbuster crossing never imaged Rs 1000 Crore mark at the box office.
This was followed by Bollywood's Dangal by crossing Rs 1000 Crore mark and even getting closer to Rs 2000 Crore mark with the help of China collections. From Sandalwood, KGF emerged as game changer and with its 2nd part, KGF 2 enters Rs 1000 crore club. Except for 2.0, Tamil films were lagged in this regard scoring a huge blockbuster recently.
Maniratnam's Magnum Opus multi-starrer, Ponniyin Selvan part 1, PS1 which was based on most popular book with the same name written by Kalki got released today exactly a year ago on 30th September, 2022. The film is about Tamilnadu History and about their cultural heads, Chola Dynasty kings. The film became a rage in Tamil Nadu and became Industry Hit. It achieved moderate success in other languages crossing Rs 500 Crores.
Kannada industry struck again. But, this time with a normal low budget film but rinch in content, Kantara. The film which was released as a regional film in Kannada on September 30, 2022 keeps growing after getting released in Telugu Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi. The film which was made with a budget of Rs 14 Crores has did the unthinkable and ended up collecting Rs 400 Crores globally in all languages.
Today these two films are celebrating their First Anniversary respectively. Congrats to both the teams over a memorable success.
