Alia Bhatt on being a Star Kid

Alia Bhatt on nepotism. Acclaimed actor Alia Bhatt recently opened up about the challenges she faced and her perspective on nepotism during the early stages of her career. In an interview with InStyle Australia, Alia candidly shared her journey, emphasizing that she was initially unaware of her privileged position before entering the Hindi film industry. Alia's Bollywood debut was in 2012 with Karan Johar's film "Student of the Year."

During the interview, Alia explained, “I was aware that my family was involved in the movie industry, so naturally, I was inclined towards it. However, it's important to note that my father never approached me with offers like, 'When you want to act, we'll give you a movie.' He never brought that up. Never. In fact, my mom faced her own struggles as an actor. Not many people know this. She was always seeking more acting opportunities and didn't feel she received her due recognition, despite being married to a director and producer. I always had some doubts. It was never a certainty that I would make it big as an actor.”

Reflecting on the questions surrounding nepotism that arose during the early phase of her career, Alia stated, “My initial reaction was defensive because I believed I worked hard, so why question it? However, as time passed and with maturity, I began to realize that there is a great deal of struggle in the world, and there is a valid argument for acknowledging the advantage and privilege I had in gaining access to certain opportunities.”
