Earlier it was Tollywood, where Bollywood find films to remake with its stars, in this generation it was started with Mahesh - Puri Jagannadh's Pokiri as Wanted starring Salman Khan in Hindi. It revived Salman's bleaking stardom and made him a Megastar. Pokiri followed by Ready and Vikramarkudu were also remade in Bollywood and became Blockbusters. But with Baahubali series, Telugu films owned market in Hindi and since then big event films are getting released simultaneously in Hindi and other regional languages.

Soorarai Pottru starring Suriya directed by Sudha Kongara is based on real life of Gopinath who founded Air Deccan. The film got released directly to OTT due to pandemic and won accolades along with National Awards. Now, Akshay Kumar is remaking the film in Hindi. Sudha Kongara is helming the project while Suriya is bank-rolling this Bollywood film.
News is Akshay Kumar is also keen on doing Vijay - Murugadoss's Kaththi. Sanjay Leela Bhansali who earlier made south remakes with Akshay Kumar is having the remake rights and planning to make it with Akshay.
Shankar remaking his Blockbuster Anniyan starring Vikram with Ranveer Singh is a long pending project due to legal troubles from its original Tamil producer.
Ajith's gangster drama, laced with sister sentiment directed by Siva, blockbuster Vedhalam is being remade in Bollywood as Vedha with John Abraham directed by Nikhil Advani. Tamannaah plays female lead and Sharvari in sisters role.
