Hyderabad, Aug 28 :
Tension prevailed before a girls’ junior college in Mehdipatnam area of Hyderabad city on Friday morning as the college management has reportedly asked a section of students, belonging to a particular community, not to wear burkahs while on college campus.
The students gathered in large numbers in front of the Vani Junior College for Girls on Thursday morning strongly protesting against the alleged ‘attitude’ of the management towards the students of the community. The agitating students demanded immediate dismissal of the college principal, whom the students held responsible for implementing the ‘unwritten’ regulation.
However, the management flatly denied the charge. “A section of students are opposing the change in timings and this section is politicizing the issue. Majority of the students belonging to the community, who are now on the agitating path, have agreed for the new timings. But only a section is politicizing it,” a management representative, who does not want to be identified told TNN when contacted.
However, suspecting trouble and as a precautionary measure the administration has kept additional forces in readiness. Armed constables are seen camping close to the college area. Friday being a holy day for the community, particularly during the ongoing month of Ramzan, the forces have been kept ready as “we do not want to take anything for chance,” an official on condition of anonymity said on Friday.
