Police intensify combing in Karimnagar

On being alerted by the intelligence agencies about the intrusion of Maoists in Karimnagar area , the police have intensified the combing operations on Wednesday.According to police sources, the  Maoists are trying to take advantage of the uncertain political situation in the state. The Maoists who had been contained to a large extent in the state are trying to revive themselves,  sources added.Of late the Maoists shifted their activities outside Andhra Pradesh after failure of peace talks in 2004 with the state government and meticulous operations carried by state police.

With the Telangana agitation picking up, the Maoists wanted  to utilize  the current  unresat  to strengthen their base in the Telangana region.The  police forces have intensified their  operations in the mandals of Sarangpur, Mahamuttarao, manthini, Kathalapur and Kamanpur.According to intelligence reports, the Maoists who infiltrated into  Karimnagar district  are busy preparing hideouts and shelters in the forests and tribal villages for their cadre retreating from neighbouring states.The elite anti-Naxal force ‘Greyhounds’ has also been moved to strategic locations to be deployed at short notice to thwart any attempt by the Maoists to infiltrate into Andhra again.
