The Zilla Panchayat meeting of Khammam on Saturday unanimously resolved to declare the district as Drought-hit.
The meeting felt that Drought conditions were prevailed in the 46 revenue mandals.
According to District Collector V Usharani, the district administration is also getting ready with its report on Drought conditions prevailing in the 46 revenue mandals.
After visiting Yerrupalem, the worst affected mandal with rainfall deficit of over 81.6 per cent, she said the report would be sent to the government in a day or two recommending Drought declaration.
The overall rainfall deficit in the district had touched 60 per cent and the report to be sent to the government would reflect the factual situation in respect of the crop loss, migration and the impact of the scarcity conditions. Some 23 of the 46 revenue mandals had borne the brunt of the scarcity conditions wherein the rainfall deficit was ranging from 60 to 81 per cent.
She visited some of the villages in the mandal and took stock of the prevailing conditions.
She said there was no problem of migration of labour at all thanks to implementation of the NREGs works in a big way.
She still sounded optimistic on the crop prospects, saying that there could be some let up in the situation, if the rainfall occurred, as it was being predicted, at least in the second or third week of the current month.
