Medaram (Waragal)Jan 26: Chief Minister K Rosaiah who visited Medaram jatara fulfilled his vows by offering 89 kg of jaggery to the Samakka and Sarakka deities on Tuesday.The CM, who reached here by helicopter a day ahead of his planned schedule offered prayers at the temple.Later, he laid the foundation stone for the bathing ghats at Bupanna Vagu to be built at a cost of Rs 10.8 crore.

He also laid the stone for the safe water drinking scheme for Kannepalli, Puratam and Pudigapalli villages.The Chief  Minister also  laid  the foundation stone for the tribal museum, which is expected to come up in this area.``This  is a major tribal festival of this region and about 90 lakh people from the neighbouring Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa  throng this  festival. I understand, there is a demand from the locals to declare the medaram jatara as a national festival.

In fact, the festival deserves to be declared a national festival. However, it is not within my purview to  confer it that status,’’ Rosaiah said.Expressing satisfaction over  the arrangements made for the pilgrims by the district administration at Medaram, the Chief Minister said efforts will be made to ensure further improvements are made in the arrangements.
