The recent order by Central Government to Telecom operators and Internet Service Providers for banning/blocking nearly 800 porn websites isn’t welcomed by all. Few of the websites among these are blocked just for being named as Adult websites without carrying any pornographic content. However, there is a new voice rising from section of people in light of Supreme Court verdict emphasizing on contentious argument from an adult person on curtailing his right to freedom from doing something within his bedroom is by all means violating his right.
In fact, Supreme Court just thought of discussing an idea of passing an interim order to direct the Government for blocking all the adult websites but did not impose a strict order to encroach into one’s personal space by stopping them from viewing adult content in between four walls.
Taking all these wrangles, some of the sources from Department of Telecom are spreading this ban as just temporary and this should be taken as a foreword to discuss on the urgency for creation of a regulatory mechanism as mentioned by Supreme Court. There was also a mention on blocking child pornography and not a complete black out. Ensure that public places like Assemblies, Cyber Cafes etc won’t become porn viewing places. Internet Service Providers has to design an alternative course of action to safeguard the interests of all.
