New Delhi,Dec 14: The venue of the second one-day international cricket match between India and Sri Lanka, scheduled to be held in Visakhapatnam has been shifted to Nagpur.According to the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), the decision has been taken after police expressed inability to provide security for the event.According to a statement released by the BCCI through its secretary N Srinivasan, the date of the tie will not be changed. "The second ODI of the five-match series between India and Sri Lanka has been shifted to Nagpur.The match will be a day-night affair, and will be played on the scheduled date of 18 December 2009,” the statement said.
The Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Sambhasiva Rao had made it clear that it will be difficult for the police to provide the required security staff since the police personnel are deployed over the district to ward off any untoward incidents. Like the rest of the state, Visakhapatnam is witnessing agitations and demonstrations in favour of a unified Andhra Pradesh.The Visakhapatnam police chief told reporters that “the prevailing situation is such that all the city police are deployed in the maintenance of regular law and order. And to conduct the match in ordinary circumstances we need to deploy 80 percent of the city force. We have mentioned it to organising locals here that is not possible for us to commit any amount of force for the conduct of the match at this stage."
