It would be a dream to cherish for every beautiful Indian girl to be crowned as Miss World. On Saturday, Miss India Pooja Chopra made history by becoming the first girl to hobble her way to the Miss World semifinals, despite being severely injured. Pooja fractured her left leg a few days prior to the contest in Johannesburg.
Breaking down on stage, she hugged Chinese TV presenter Angela Chow, who announced her name. “She’s a tough girl,’’ said Chow, gently lifting Pooja’s gown to show off her leg in a cast.
Extending full support to the brave girl were her mother and grandmother, who had flown to be by her side while former Miss World fellow Indian Priyanka Chopra was also there to cheer Pooja on
At last Miss Gibraltar Kaiane Aldorino won the Miss World crown for 2009, defeating 111 contestants.
