Who'll make these truant Civic staff work?

Vijayawada,Dec 11: Wearing Raybon glasses they vroom around the city on bikes. All that they do is gardening in the Horticulture department. They come in the morning and return in the evening to sign their attendance registers.What they do during the working hours nobody knows.For years, they have been treating the Municipal Corporation office as their in-law's place. After having had enough of their tantrums, the Commissinoer decided to make them work.It is to be seen how he could extract work from these workers who have forgotten their work long ago.The nearly 270 civic workers are employed with the Horticulure department.Fifty of them are only permanent workers and the remaining have been drawn from Dwcra groups or are taken as NMRs.

For the past few days,it has become difficult to ask them to do any work as no one heeds to their orders.When the Municipal Commissioner found the local parks untidy,he ordered the officials to post only permanent employees there so that they can be held responsible for the maintenance of the parks.Though some of them resisted the move initially, they had to fall in line as the Corporation officials decided to be tough. However, the officials fail to take action against those who work in an inebriated state. Anyway, with the commissioner deciding to go tough,the park users may hope to see tidier parks in the city hereafter.
