Hyderabad,Nov 18: Gajju,the ‘Golden elephant’ has become the mascot of Hyderabad since the last Saturday. He has been entertaining the residents of Hyderabad and the visitors with his enchanting colorful presence at the airport,traffic medians and also at the shopping malls of the Charminar city.Gajju’s popularity has grown to such heights,particularly among the children and the younger generation that policy-makers and opinion makers have begun to consider Gajju as the new mascot of Cyberbad.It is in fitness of things that the golden elephant has been chosen as the mascot of the 16th International Children’s Film Festival as Gajju represented innocence, brightness,huge potential,determination and also the openness of the children and youth.
No other animal or bird can represent the children and youth better than the baby elephant,says veteran director and film-maker Bapu. One could find the inflatable balloons of Gajju, standing at Prasad's IMAX besides huge hoardings at bus stands,railway stations and also shopping malls and also at Lalitakala Thoranam.“It appears as if Hyderabad has been invaded by the Golden baby elephants,said a senior bureaucrat on arrival from Delhi on Wednesday.The child delegates and orphans are thrilled at the reception given to them by the two baby golden elephants at the doorway to Prasad’s IMAX,one of the major film screening venues in the city.Children played around the pachyderms and also posed for photos to carry back home good memories of their week-long sojourn at Hyderabad.
