Vijayawada, Oct 30: The picturesque Bhavani Island will be reopened for public from today. However visitors are allowed only in the day time. The island has been reopened after a gap of one month after recent floods inundated the island. The island is spread over 130 acres near Prakasam Barrage and it is one of the most sought after destination for the tourists in the city.Hundreds of trees were washed by flood water and silt deposits rose to five feet. The power supply was also disrupted as High Tension tower caved in during the recent floods. The tourism department suffered a loss of Rs one crore.
APTDC divisional manager G Ramakrishna told mediapersons today that a temporary generator was set up for the convenience of the tourists. Transco authorities are on the look out for a suitable place to set up the transformer and poles for high tension wires, he said.In view of Karthika Masam many tourists flock the Island not only from Krishna district but also from the neighbouring Guntur, Khammam and West Godavari districts. He said all arrangements have been made including the restoration of water supply for the convenience of the tourists.
