Vijayawada, Oct 9 :

As water receded from almost all parts of Krishna and Tungabhadra flood affected areas, normalcy was returned and the government officials have intensified relief and restoration works in the full swing. The irrigation officials said that the water level in almost all dams is flowing below the danger levels. They said the flood gates of Jurala, Srisailam, Nagarjuna Sagar and Prakasam barrages have been shutdown by managing inflows and outflows of water properly. Officials said there was no threat of breaches to the flood banks or to the canal bunds in the delta region.

As the flood waters receding, the breaches to the Right Flood Bank Canal of the Krishna at Voleru and canal bund near Repalle have been plugged by placing 100 metres cement bund. The Repalle town was submerged by flood water from the Krishna flowed through almost all its areas after its right flood bank breached near Voleru on Tuesday last. Power supply has been restored to five out of six flood affected towns, 486 of the 627 villages and to all 49 mandal headquarters, they said. The sanitation and restoration work in Kurnool is making the officials very tough as the thick layer of silt accumulated in the town has solidified. The state government has opened centres in Hyderabad, Tirupati, Vijayawada and various places to collect flood relief material donated by the public and philanthropists.
