A huge laddu of 5,570 kg prepared during recent Ganesh festival in the State on Friday entered the Guinness Book of World Records.
The laddu was prepared by Suvarnabhoomi Developers Pvt Limited in Tapeswaram, in the East Godavari district, which is well known for sweet `Kaja.’ Expressing happiness, Satish Reddy of real estate firm showed the certificate received from Guinness Book of World records to media persons here in Visakhapatnam.
The laddu was prepared for the 117-feet tall idol of Ganesh installed at MVP colony in Visakhapatnam district last September and was used as `prasadam’ for devotees during the 21-day long festival. It was the tallest idol installed in the state this year. As many as 50 workers laboured for a week to make the laddu and the ingredients included sugar, flour, moong dal and dry fruits.
The record of the largest laddu (551 kg) was earlier held by a Hindu temple in Britain. Interestingly, a sweet shop of Tapeswaram in East Godavari had prepared 450 kg laddu for a 55 ft tall idol at Khairatabad in Hyderabad.
Satish Reddy said that the laddu will be distributed to 25 lakh Ayyappa devotees in Rajahmundry, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam districts free of cost during Mandal deeksha.
