Traffic was stopped on both sides of the tollgate as surging waters overflowed on the highway at a height of three to four feet between Aitavaram and Keesara villages and at Kapilesapuram near Ibrahimpatnam.

Earlier, the police diverted the heavy vehicles coming towards Vijayawada at Suryapet in Nalgonda district and Jaggayyapeta in Krishna district.

The Hyderabad-bound traffic was diverted at Ibrahimpatnam via Tiruvuru, Khammam and Suryapet. Lorries and buses, which were stranded at the tollgate, turned back and headed to Hyderabad via Tiruvuru.

As the flood water receded on highway, the officials resumed bus services between Hyderabad and Vijayawada. The police even started taking preventive measures for smooth traffic movement on National Highway-9.
