The mortal remains of Major J Suresh Suri, who was killed in a gun-battle with militants in Jammu and Kashmir, has been cremated at Bansilalpet crematorium in his hometown, Hyderabad with military honours. His body was flown in last night.
Minister for Home Smt Sabitha Indra Reddy paid rich tributes to the Major by placing a wreath on his body. Sabitha paid a visit to Major’s house and consoled his family members. She said that the government would extend all help to the Suri’s family.
Major J S Suri (30) a native of Hyderabad, sacrificed his life in fierce fighting with militants at Bandipora in north Kashmir on Thursday.
Suri's body kept in a coffin draped in the tri-colour, was flown to Delhi from Srinagar after military honours and later brought to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad in Hyderabad on Friday night.
The Major body was kept at his residence at Vani Nagar in Malkajgiri for people to pay their last respects.
The Major was posted at Bandipora one year ago. He is survived by his wife S Pallavi and mother Girija. He was married to Pallavi in August last year.
On October 5, Suri had planned to celebrate his birthday with his wife, Pallavi. His wife arrived at the 13 Rashtriya Rifles regimental centre in Manasbal a few days ago. "Suresh joined the army eight years ago. He was in Hyderabad during Ganesh Chaturthi festival besides his wedding anniversary was celebrated on August 28. He and Pallavi left for Delhi on September 5," another family member told TNN.
