New York Times reports a special story of what was happening with USA President Barack Obama during the time when his military forces were attacking al-Qaida supreme Osama bin Laden. Here is dramatic account of the story behind the US mission.
The president and his advisers were watching Leon Panetta, the CIA director, on a video screen, as he was narrating from his agency’s headquarters across the Potomac River on what was happening in faraway Pakistan.
“They’ve reached the target,” he said…Minutes passed.
“We have a visual on Geronimo,” he said…few minutes later “Geronimo Ekia.” There was silence in the Situation Room. Finally, the president spoke up.
“We got him.”
A few minutes later: “Geronimo Ekia.”
‘Geronimo’ is the code name of Osama for Obama while ‘EKIA” means ‘Enemy Killed In Action.’
Geronimo was a prominent Native American leader, Apache freedom fighter who fought against the invasion of his homeland by suppressive foreigners. He fought against Mexico and the United States for their expansion into Apache tribal lands during the Apache Wars. Later US government ordered the military to catch Geronimo either dead or alive. Now, Obama used same name as code for Osama.
