Khammam, Sept 22: The Maoists suffered another blow on Tuesday with the surrendering of five hardcore Naxalites before the police in Khammam district along with their arms and ammunition.Talking to media persons, Superintendent of Police Mahesh M. Bhagwat said that the officials were hopeful that these surrenders would lead to major revelations about the Maoist activities in south Orissa and Chhattisgarh as they were involved in some major naxal violence in the past.The surrendered were involved in several cases of murder, attempted murder, arson and extortion.On this occasion, the Superintendent of Police appealed to the underground cadres to shun violence and join the main stream of the society for a peaceful life.
The government has been extending all possible help to the surrendered naxals for their rehabilitation, he added.The Union Government has initiated the surrender-cum-rehabilitation policy for Naxals to bring them back into mainstream, as part of its multi-pronged strategy to deal with the Red Ultras, he pointed out.The overall objective of the policy is to deal with the problem in a holistic manner so that a safe and secure safe environment for development and economic growth is ensured in Naxal-affected states, he observed.
