Importance of Ramzan:-
Ramzan is considered to be one of the most revered festivals and is celebrated across the world with much reverence. According to Muslim calendar, this famed festival falls in the ninth month and is believed to be that period of the year when the Holy Quran “was sent down from heaven, as guidance unto men, a declaration of direction, and a means of salvation”. For Muslims, Ramzan is a joyous festival as it is followed by a month long fasting and special foods a nd delicacies are always prepared for the day and are distributed to neighbours and friends.
The fasting is observed throughout the month and it is during this festival month that Muslims give more attention to spiritual activities and engage in noble thoughts and deeds rather than focusing on things that are mundane. For them, Ramzan is a time of worship and contemplation. They are not allowed to eat or drink during the daylight hours. At the end of the day, the fast is broken with a prayer which is followed by a feast called Iftar. The fast is resumed the next morning.
The festival celebration begins after a month-long fasting and is usually celebrated for three days. For all, it’s an occasion for feasting and rejoicing in a grand manner. All the family members along with their friends and relatives come together to pray in congregation and the religious get-together culminates in a gala feast.
Id-ul-Fitr occurs as soon as the new moon is sighted at the end of the month of fasting. During the month-long fasting, strict restraints are placed on the daily routine of Muslims. Apart from the five daily prayers, during the Ramzan month, Muslims recite a special night prayer which is usually 2-3 times as long as the daily prayers. Some even spend the entire night in prayer.
