Andhra Pradesh confirmed two more swine flu deaths here on Saturday, taking the overall death toll to four in the state. The victims were 30-year-old Lakshmi Devi Lakka from Kavadiguda in Secunderabad and 38-year-old Roopa Devi from Kadapa district. Lakshmi Devi was admitted to Aware-Global Hospital, L B Nagar on August 25 in a critical condition and kept on ventilator.
Doctors of the Chest Hospital, Erragadda, said that Roopa Devi admitted on August 29 and went in to a critical state owing to late diagnosis. The doctors after diagnosing symptoms of H1N1 infection — sore throat, running nose and headache, shifted her to Intensive Care Unit and was put on a ventilator. “She was on ventilator from the first day itself and had a multiple organ failure,” they pointed out.
Till now, the health authorities have confirmed 207 positive cases of swine flu in the State. On August 31, the first swine flu fatalities were notified with the death of 35-year-old realtor T Malyadri and 25-year-old Prasad. With this the death toll in the swine flu cases rose to 115 in the country.
The World Health Organisation declared the present outbreak as a H1N1 influenza epidemic on June 11. The virus has till now killed more than 800 people worldwide and is expected to hit 30% of the world population in its second wave, towards the end of the year when the cool climate would be perfect for the virus to propagate.
