Japan based on a real-life thief. Karthi is known for doing different genre of entertainers and his film Japan is attracting the attention of all. The film's first look generated immense interest among movie lovers. The film directed by Raja Murugan is racing for a grand release during Diwali 2023.

Anu Emanuel is the heroine in the film which stars  Suneel, Navaneeth, Asha Sudheer, and Vijay Milton in key roles. In the meantime, reports are coming that the film is based on real-life incidents and is a biopic of a thief. Thiruvarur Murgan robbed a whopping Rs 13 crs worth of jewels and diamonds from the popular Lalithaa Jewelry in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The robbery created a sensation across the country in 2019 and Tamil Nadu police managed to arrest Murugan who indulged in robberies down south in other states also. However, Murugan passed away due to AIDS in jail in 2020. Now that the makers are making the film on Thiruvarur Murugan, Karthi suggested a few changes in the original story as the makers are glorifying a thief.

The makers are adding commercial elements showing Murugan why he turned into a robber and how he robbed many prestigious outlets. The film members are differing on the climax. While few are advocating for showing real-life incidents, others are of the opinion that they should come up with a happy ending.
