Rahman is facing a plagiarism allegation. Mani Ratnam's epic Ponniyin Selvan II which was released last week is getting a good response from movie lovers. Even though Mani Ratnam's fans are enjoying the film and even the songs tuned by Rahman, now the makers got a huge shock as Rahman faced plagiarism allegations.
Dhrupad singer Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar accused Rahman and the makers of lifting the tune of Veera Raja Veera song from his father and uncle’s Shiva stuti. Wasifuddin Dagar even sent a letter to Rahman in which he mentioned “I wish Madras Talkies and Mr Rahman had taken the family’s permission. I would never have said no. But doing it like this, for massive commercial gains, is very problematic. The composition has just been lifted and sung in the same taandav styleâ€æ. The only difference is the arrangement of the piece,”
However, the makers denied these allegations. They said “for monetary gains & publicity” Wasifuddin is indulging in these acts and pointed out that Veera Veera is a “traditional composition created by Narayana Panditacharyain in the 13th century”.
The film starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, and Karthi in important roles.
