Sripathy shared his thoughts on missing Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi for the prestigious biopic of star cricketer Muralidharan titled 800. It is known that Vijay Sethupathi walked out of the project after a huge controversy after Muralidharan spoke in favour of the Srilankan government's action against the Tamilians.
Sripathy roped in Slumdog Millionnaire actor Madhur Mittal. On Vijay Sethupathi, he said “Will we miss a star like Vijay attached to the project? Sure. But that didn’t hold me back because I know this is a story worth telling.”
On Madhur Mittal, he said “I will admit, I wasn’t confident he could pull it off initially. But when I watched his audition tape, I was blown away. I wanted someone to essay the cricketer from his early 20s to late 30s, apart from carrying off the emotional scenes well. And he did!”
Sripathy said “It’s a well-balanced tale of an underdog who lived through the civil war, rose above his circumstances, and achieved something big in life. He is a legend, but he’s also a human with shortcomings," He added “We began shooting for the film in April 2022 and major portions were shot in Sri Lanka, Kochi, the UK, Australia, and Chennai,.”
