Academy insults Indian Oscar winner. Indians got double delight when Naatu Naau from RRR won the Oscars and Guneet Monga and Kartiki Gonsalves's The Elephant Whisperers won the Oscars for the best Documentary film. But netizens are fuming that Guneet Monga was insulted by the Academy organizers by cutting off her acceptance speech.
Everyone gets 45 seconds for the acceptance speech at the Oscars. Kartiki then took 43 seconds for her speech in which she said "I stand here today to speak for the sacred bond between us and our natural world, for the respect of indigenous communities, and empathy towards other living beings we share space with and finally, for coexistence. Thank you to the Academy for recognizing our film, highlighting indigenous people and animals.”
However, when Guneet was about to speak, her speech was cutoff and the music started. But a netizen found out that others were given more than 45 seconds for their acceptance speeches. They pointed out that the next set of awards which were for the category Best Animated Short that went to Charles Mackesy and Matthew Freud for The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse. Their speech extended more than 45 seconds but it was not cut off. Twitter found this thing as an insult to the Indians.
They reacted angrily and said Indians shouldn't tolerate such insults and should protest then and there.
