Ever since producer Naga Vamsi spilled the beans that he would bankroll a mythological film starring Young Tiger Ntr in lead role, there have been mixed responses from Young Tiger's fans while some more fans welcomed the initiative.
LET'S LEARN THE DEFINITION OF MYTHOLOGICAL FILM, FIRST: A mythological film deals with the story of Gods. In short, stories taken from the epics such as Ramayana, Maha Bharat and Maha Bhagavatam can be considered as mythological films.
Why are some fans opposing mythological films for Ntr? The poor track record of mythological films is worrying fans. Wayback in 1950s and 60s, many mythological films enacted by late Ntr turned into blockbusters and super hits. However, the success rate of mythological films has been decreasing since the 1970s.
Ntr's Dana Veera Sura Karna was the last super hit among mythological films that was released in 1977. Thereupon, even Ntr got disasters with mythological films like 'Srimadvirataparvam' (1979).
Balakrishna acted in Sri Krishnarjuna Vijayam and Pandurangadu. Both turned disasters while Sri Ramarajyam stood as a decent flop.
And very recently, Prabhas's Adipurush teaser received lacklustre response from the viewers thus sending alarming signals for the fate of the film.
Nagarjuna's Annamayya and Sri Ramadasu fall under 'Devotional Films' category and so turned blockbusters. Chiranjeevi's Sri Manjunatha also falls under the same category and got above average results at the box office.
All in all, since 1977, Tollywood hasn't witnessed a blockbuster with a mythological film. Will Jr Ntr break the ice? Let's wait and watch.
