Right from the start of her career, Pooja Hegde has picked head-turning projects, working with some of the biggest names from time to time. Her multi-lingual career has been a massive one, and her filmography has been made special by her breathtaking collaborations with superstar male actors and star directors. She has essayed a variety of characters with loads of grace and ease over the years across languages.
At the last weekend's South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) awards ceremony, the pan-India superstar actress was rewarded with the right honour in recognition of her talent and journey. She received the Youth Icon of South Indian cinema recognition in style.
The actress received the honour for not only being part of some of the biggest blockbusters like 'Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo' but also for being consistent since her Tollywood debut many years ago. Her characters from films as different as 'Mukunda', 'Aravindha Sametha', 'Maharshi', 'Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo', 'Radhe Shyam' and 'Beast' have fetched her the well-deserved honour.
"Her screen presence is impeccable, making the youngsters of the country all head over heels. She stands tall as the symbol of perfection. This 'Butta Bomma' makes it hard for the youth to take their eyes off. She can make the young hearts race with her 'Arabic Kuthu moves," SIIMA said while giving her the recognition, mentioning also her love-struck Prerna from 'Radhe Shyam', alluring Nilambari from 'Acharya', the opinionated woman from 'Aravindha Sametha', and the devotional 'Gopikamma' from 'Mukunda'.
"I think the biggest compliment I ever get is that I am known by my characters and songs. I feel that the youth icon honour is something that is so intense. It is a great sign that if you are authentically and unapologetically yourself, I guess, somewhere down the line, you will inspire people. I am really about this," Pooja said, receiving the award, also thanking her ever-supportive parents. She added that there is no excellence without labour, giving a glimpse of her work ethic.

The pretty diva also received the Best Actor (Female) award for 'Most Eligible Bachelor' (2021), in which she played a stand-up comic who had to mouth long lines.
"Thank You SIIMA for this honour and to all those who voted. Vibha is now even more special to me. Thank you to Geetha Arts for seeing me as this character and Baskar sir for writing such a strong female role.. (and all those 3 pages long stand-up monologues) (sic)," the actress tweeted.
