Tollywood producers, filmmakers and stars unable to find ways to bring movie lovers to theatres are trying their best to force them to theatres by flexing their muscles. They held a meeting and discussed various contentious issues like ticket rates, OTT releases etc. They arrived at a decision to allow the films with a budget of around Rs 6crs within four weeks of the film for OTT streaming and films above that budget after 10 weeks.
But the question is will such a decision make people throng theatres? No way and many feel that those associated with Tollywood are coming up with lame excuses instead of trying to introspect as to what went wrong. Many are of the opinion that they are getting BP completely forgetting that they are coming out with before pandemic films stuff in the outdated mode of Before Christ. People used to see them out of no option but as a time pass. But they should realize that after the pandemic, things have changed and people decided to take risks and go to the theatres only for creative stuff.
Shifting the blame on OTTs will not work as even otherwise people admired films like Jai Bhim and Soorarai Potturu which were streamed directly on OTTs and Color Photo and Soorarai Pottru even went on to win national awards. This shows that filmmakers instead of forcing their decisions on the OTTs and the movie lovers should come out with creative and innovative stuff and strong storylines to attract people to come to theatres rather than cry over the spilled milk.
But analysts say Tollywood filmmakers and producers will not change and they point out how over the decades they tried to paint cable TV, satellite channels, and serials as the villains for their incapability. It is better they improvise and cherish or persist and perish.
