History may offer sweet memories for some people. But the same history discloses bitter truths which are hard to be digested and discussed. This is about the biggest defeat of late Ntr we are talking about.
As we know, Ntr got significant victories in 1983, 1985 and 1994 general elections. But then, which is the biggest defeat of Ntr? Almost all people may proclaim it was the defeat in 1989's general elections in which the Congress party defeated the TDP and assumed power.
But then, historians felt there was another defeat of Ntr which they claimed to be the biggest of all defeats of Ntr. But then, this defeat of Ntr came after only his demise.
It is a known fact that Chandrababu Naidu dethroned Ntr and assumed power in 1995. Eventually, Ntr breathed his last on 18 January, 1996. The staunch loyalists, sympathizers and the hardcore fans of Ntr deeply lamented with the series incidents against Ntr. They felt CBN was the biggest culprit behind the fall of Ntr.
As CBN grabbed the TDP and its symbol cycle, Ntr's better half Lakshmi Parvathi floated a political party named 'Ntr Telugu Desham' in 1996 as per the advice of Ntr's loyalists across the AP. It was believed that the party would sweep the elections for sure as Ntr's fans were supposed to take the revenge against CBN. 'Lion' was the symbol allocated for the Ntr TDP.
Leaving Ntr's loyalists into a dismal state, NtrTDP exhibited deadly poor performance in 1996 Lok Sabha elections and 1999 general elections in which CBN's TDP clinched an amazing victory from the other political parties including NtrTDP. NtrTDP could get 0.18% vote share.
Does change of political party's name and symbol affect to that extent? How could the backstabber (for Ntr's fans view) CBN win 1999 general elections? In fact, the people accepted Lakshmi Parvathi as Ntr's second wife. That's why, she made TDP got victory in 1994 general elections with an aggressive political campaigning along with Ntr.
Whatsoever, historians need to answer for aforementioned million dollar questions.
