Speculations are rife with the reports that, theatres in Telangana state will be shut down owing to upsurge in corona cases in the state. The reports came after Telangana government announced to shut down all educational institutions in the state again. However, Telangana Cinematography Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav denied rumours that the government is planning to close theatres in the state.

Mentioning that the film industry has already suffered huge losses due to the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent lockdown, Talasani said that theatres will continue to function as per the Union government’s COVID-19 guidelines.

“Many people have lost their livelihoods. There are lakhs of people depending on this industry. Keeping in mind the difficulties of everyone related to the film industry, theatres will remain open. We request people not to heed rumours of closing of theatres.”

He assured that the State government will continue to support all the artistes and technicians from the film industry.
