Chaavu Kaburu Challaga Review, What’s Behind?

Thanks to aggressive promotions and intriguing promotional stuff, Chaavu Kaburu Challaga generated some interest. Starring Kartikeya and Lavanya Tripathi the film directed by Peggalapati Koushik and produced by Bunny Vasu and Allu Aravind under GA2 Pictures arrives in theatres for audience verdict.

Chaavu Kaburu Challaga Story Review:

A hearse driver Basthi Balaraju (Kartikeya) falls flat for a widowed nurse Mallika (Lavanya Tripathi) who is committed not to marry another time. On the other hand, his mother Gangavva (Aamani) whose husband is bedridden is in love with a TV mechanic Mohan (Srikanth Iyyengar). While Balaraju flirts with Mallika, he doesn’t like his mother in a pure relationship with another person. Where do these two love stories end up forms crux of the story.

Chaavu Kaburu Challaga Artists, Technicians Review:

Director Pegallapati Koushik cleverly didn’t divulge the other love story in the film in promos, as he and his team knows it is going to create damage to the prospects of the film. Though he tried to convince that love can blossom between any two people at any stage of their life, a woman in love with some other person when her husband is still alive doesn’t make much sense and may not connect to Telugu audience. Due to thin storyline, the director opted to narrate the story in an entertaining way. But, at one point of time, we feel the story is stuck in where it started. The screenplay also lacked the emotional connect. However, dialogues are the biggest strength of the film. Jakes Bejoy’s background score is a saving grace as he lifted ordinary scenes too with his enchanting BGM. Couple of songs in first half, however, disturb the flow of the film. Karm Chawla’s camera work is appreciable. G Satya should have chopped off at least 10 to 15 minutes of the film. Production values of GA2 Pictures are rich in standard.

Onto artists, Kartikeya has come up with an energetic performance. He maintained the energy levels throughout. His acts will definitely please masses. Lavanya Tripathi played a de-glam and meaty roles and she is flawless. Aamani makes strong impact in a bold role as Gangavva who consumes alcohol with son. Murali Sharma is regular as Lavanya’s father-in-law. Anasuya Bharadwaj provides glam feast in special song. Bhadram and Mahesh Achanta provided comic relief in few scenes. Tanikella Bharani makes his presence felt in a flashback episode.

Chaavu Kaburu Challaga Review Rating Analysis:

The plotline of a guy owning a mortuary wan falling in love with a widowed girl is a good idea. There is scope for the director to make enough fun and he somehow did his bit in providing some comedy with the unique setup. But, what actually goes wrong is the parallel love story which is meant to question the protagonist about his approach. The tedium in narration brings boredom after a point of time.

The film begins with introduction of Kartikeya in a traffic jam where he uses his small bran and the intent of the scene is to say that don’t think over smart for small issues. Kertikeya falling in love with a widowed young girl when she is mourning for her husband’s death doesn’t make any sense. Moreover, he proposes to her on the graveyard. Then, it’s routine that he starts following her to all the places to get acceptance. On the other hand, this same person hates his mother being in love with another man, though her father is still alive. His conversations with his dad look disgusting. No son behaves like that with her father who is bed-ridden. The interval sequence too is not exciting as this too is a routine stuff.

Latter half begins with Anasuya Bharadwaj’s special song which somehow gives some relief. When there is needed to build strong emotional connectivity between the main plot and the sub-plot, it turns out her-centric. The sequence of the protagonist waiting for Lavanya to accept his love at hospital when his mother is in serious condition is just awful. Then, the rest is routine with Lavanya confused between family and love. A small flashback in pre-climax is convincing followed by regular end to the story.

All in all, Chaavu Kaburu Challaga is not up to the mark. The film botches mainly due to lack of emotional connect. Though comedy works in parts and Kartikeya gave his best, we feel something is missing. You may like the film if you don’t care about logics. CJ goes with 2.5 star rating and the film is one time watchable.
