Hitherto, the AP State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar was thought to be an arch rival for the ruling YSRCP and was a good friend for the opposition TDP. Further, it was buzzed by some media houses that Nimmagadda would be made the number 2 in the TDP post his retirement which is locked to 31st of March.
All these speculations took to their wings to spread in every nook and cranny after Nimmagadda unilaterally deferring the Panchayat elections in the month of March, 2020, citing the reason to contain the dreaded coronavirus.
Thereafter, every decision of Nimmagadda turned out to be a counter to the ruling party. The YCP leaders alleged that Nimmagadda was implementing Chandrababu Naidu's agenda in taking monopolistic decisions. The YCP made a lot of hue and cry when Nimmagadda released the Panchayat election notification without making any extensive consultations with the ruling party.
All in all, every resolution of Nimmagadda appeared to be an advantageous factor for the TDP before the local body elections.
Much to everyone's shocker, the YCP swept the Panchayat as well as the municipal elections with an astronomical majority over other political parties. Right now, YCP enthusiasts are complimenting Nimmagadda as a 'Lucky Mascot' for the YSRCP. They also made it clear that Nimmagadda turned a bad omen for the TDP.
Not only the YCP loyalists but also the CM might have been pleased with Nimmagadda's decision of conducting local body polls hastily.
