Zombie Reddy, director Prasanth Varma’s third film marking the launch of child-actor Teja Sajja in a lead role, that released the previous week opened to mixed reviews. Though the film performed decently on the weekends, the absence of a strong crowd-pulling factor has hurt its run on the weekdays. It is expected that the film will have an OTT premiere by the end of this month.
While there was a lot of confusion over the platform that has grabbed the digital rights for Zombie Reddy earlier, there’s some clarity now that Aha may stream the film in the last week of February. The OTT platform has already grabbed the rights for Sekhar Kammula’s Love Story that releases on April 16 as well.
Several forums in Tamil film industry and Malayalam film industry have already laid out regulations regarding the OTT premiere of a theatrical release. Surprisingly, Tollywood is yet to take a call on the same. A minimum of a four-week window between theatrical release and OTT premiere has been suggested in multiple industries and it seems a fair deal given most films don’t enjoy repeat value or draw audiences much after the second week.
