Reservations are being enjoyed by various sections of the society. But then, there had been a lot of hue and cry among the economically backward classes who belonged to the general category. Despite their merit and higher qualifications, they couldn't get the seats they desired for in educational institutions nor had they been securing jobs in government firms.
Having made out the woes of the economically backward classes, the union government created a sub category Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and provided them 10% reservations in educational institutions and government jobs. Obviously, the union government's initiative towards the EWS group turned a boon for them.
It is a common practice, if any reserved quota is created by the centre, the state governments also implement the allotted reservation quota to the beneficiaries. As such, the AP government is supposed to implement a 10% reservations quota for EWCs. But then, nothing of that sort is happening.
The government didn't consider EWS quota for village secretariat posts. Also, the EWS quota hasn't been implemented for educational institutions till date.
In the meanwhile, it's alleged that the CM Ys Jagan Mohan Reddy is against the EWS quota and which is why he is reluctant to bring the quota into force.
"The CM is predominantly working for the sake of one particular group of people who belong to a particular 'Religion'. As such, he ignored EBCs who form more than 30% of the total population," says an observer adding,"The CM should implement EWS reservation for the upcoming DSC notification and for all the educational institutions. If not, he must be ready to face the negative results in the local body polls."
