The Britishers used to call Chennai as Madras. Fortunately, the age old name of Madras, Chennai was made replaced by the Tamil Nadu government, a couple of years ago. Likewise, ancient names Bengaluru and and Kolkata replaced the names of metropolitan cities Bangalore and Calcutta.
But the million dollar question is why haven't the names of New Delhi and Hyderabad changed as their original names Hasthinapuram and Bhagya Nagar.
As is known, Hasthinapuram was the kingdom of Pandavas during Dwapara Yuga. Later, the name of the city was changed as New Delhi. Similarly, Hyderabad was initially named Bhagya Nagar after the name of Bhagamathi, the wife of Kuli Kutub Shah. The name had gradually been changed as Hyderabad.
A big section of people of India wish to get the names of New Delhi and Hyderabad replaced with Hasthinapuram and Bhagyanagar. Will it be possible? Only time will tell us the answer.
