Ammoru Thalli Review: RJ Balaji along with NJ Saravanan directed a satirical film that uses God Vs Godman trope to put across a strong message. Though the film looks silly at times, it also has its moments. The film is highly inspired by films like Oh My God (Gopala Gopala in Telugu). The first half of the film is highly entertaining, until the entry of Baba towards the interval.

A layered film is not what we expect but there needs to be at least a semblance of credibility in the central conflict. An extremely powerful and evil godman is reduced to being a clown. When this happens, the seriousness of the issue is also weakened. The enemy becomes too easy to defeat. Throughout the second half, most of what happens in the name of comedy is just hamming and sarcasm.

Urvashi who played RJ Balaji’s mother is the real hero of the film. She is humorous throughout the first half, wherein she is equally emotional in a particular scene in second half. RJ Balaji did his role convincingly, wherein Nayanthara looked heavenly in the role of a goddess. Ajay Ghosh’s ‘athi’ as Baba is unbearable.

Finally, the pre-climax and climax portions are thought-provoking. Still, it looks senseless as goddess appears many times, whenever a masala song is crooned. OGM became such big hit because it was dealt sensibly. Ammoru Thalli lacked the sensibilities.

All in all, Ammoru Thalli is a watchable film with adequate comedy. You will love if, if you watch it as a comedy film.
